Jepara Population

As of 2008, the total population of Jepara regency amounted to 117.631 and the population increase in 2009 become 121.432 and in 2010 the population prediction will increase to 125.356 (source; Bappeda, Jepara Government).

The language derives from ancient Sanskrit. However, Jepara is considered to be “Furniture city”. Majorities of Jepara people are worked as a craftsmen.

The population is almost entirely Javanese and over 95% Muslim. In the 16th century it was an independent kingdom, and was twice burned by the Dutch.
As a coastal area many traders from around the world landed in Jepara centuries ago.
As a result, some of Jepara’s resident have at part European, Chinese, Arabs, Malay or Bugis ancestry.
